Hunting Expired Critters: Testing Your Patience

Lucky Leprechaun

UPDATE: It appears that critter links are expiring now after 3 months. To see when a critter expired, visit my main Critter Page and check the chart.

Did you miss out on critters that were only available for a short period of time? Perhaps just one of them? Want it real bad? So bad you can't sleep at night, and your thoughts keep running towards how great that Dozy Devil would have looked on your farm? Maybe it's not that bad, but you still want that sucker. Hang in there, buddy. All hope is not lost! You see, there is a small chance of still obtaining one of these.., if you're willing to put in the effort. Mind you it will be difficult, time consuming and likely to get your rage on when it doesn't work out. Eh. No pain, no gain.

"Yadda yadda, tell me how already! I got an afternoon to kill anyway!"

Alright, so here's the deal: If a critter expires, the individual feeds with this critter will not, thus you may be able to still grab one or two of them if you're lucky and/or patient enough. A feed which hasn't been grabbed will last indefinitely, at least to my knowledge. What you want to do is to find someone with a public wall or a Facebook friend. This person must be of the sharing kind. A good way to look for this is to see if there are current critters, XP/coin feeds and such up on their wall. There are? Great! Even if there aren't you can still browse their wall a bit in case they quit playing Pot Farm recently. Now comes the tedious bit which makes this a job for the truly patient only. You must browse down untill you hit the month where the critter you want was available. This will take forever as you have to keep making it display earlier wall posts and it does about one to two days for every time you scroll to the bottom. Once you get there, you could find them, your thought-they-were-gone-forever critters!

Some tips to make your search easier:

  1. Find a suitable person by going to the Pot Farm application page, go down to the month you want and pick some people from the comments of one of Pot Farms posts. This way you're guaranteed that the person has been playing for long enough and was active at the time. Looking through your mid to high level neighbors isn't a bad idea either.
  2. When browsing walls, use your browsers search option to bring you directly to any critter you may be interested in. Keep in mind you must still browse the wall all the way down to at least Christmas for this to work.
  3. Several "Likes" usually mean it's taken.
  4. People with more than a few hundred friends are unlikely to have any available critters unless these friends don't play Pot Farm. Take a good look on their wall and evaluate the chances of each individually before you go all the way back to Halloween.
  5. Remain patient! It may take a long time to get lucky. How much effort you put in will obviously depend on how bad you want your prize.

You'll probably have to do more than just a few peoples walls if you wish to succeed at this, but the payoff could surprise you.

Happy hunting! Peace.

Here are a couple trophies a friend bagged in late February 2011 using these tips.
